In her opening speech, Sara Escudero calls on everyone to discover the Torrevieja Carnival
The Torrevieja Carnival got off to a flying start with a lively opening speech delivered by Sara Escudero, a familiar face from various television and radio programmes. The start of the 2024 Torrevieja Carnival was marked by a Greek cultural theme, which is why a large number of those attending the Municipal Theatre wore costumes and accessories related to classical Greece. This included the officials supporting the event, the members of the Carnival Association’s board themselves, and even the presenter of the carnival events, Francisco Reyes.
The screening of the documentary film summarising the 2023 Torrevieja Carnival was met with loud applause; it featured the most spectacular footage from most of the events that took place last year, interspersed with interviews with various people involved in organising the festival, all presented in the style of a documentary.
The great star of the night was Sara Escudero, who at all times interacted with the audience and made direct allusions to Torrevieja words, as well as to the different carnival comparsas and to events for which the city has recently been in the news. In this regard she referred to the salt that left Torrevieja for Madrid during Storm Filomena. Escudero praised the Torrevieja carnival parades and asked that “everyone should get to know them so that it is declared of interest by UNESCO”, said the comedian. The proclamation speaker received long applause from the audience and the thanks of the Carnival Cultural Association with a gift presented by its president, Francisco Pizana Cutillas.
