A SPLENDID CORONATION OF THE 2024 CARNIVAL KINGS
The Torrevieja carnival made its triumphant entrance into its big days with the brilliant coronation of its first representatives during a gala which, for the first time in its history, had to be repeated twice to meet audience demand. In fact, the Municipal Theatre was full for both sessions and enthusiastically applauded and cheered the new monarchs in their spectacular presentations. So did the Junior Queen, Irene del Monte Sáez, of the comparsa «Daimana» with her fantasy «Nace una ilusión», inspired by the story of «Beauty and the Beast», which captivated all the attendees. For his part, the Carnival King, Damián Bear Guillén, of the comparsa «No ni ná», surprised the audience with the recreation of his fantasy «Génesis», an exaltation of the creation of light and darkness.
The new Carnival Queen, Eva Viuda Pina, of the comparsa «Desafío», was presented with all the brilliance and charm, with the fantasy called «Eva», alluding to the narratives of the origin of humanity and with which she seeks to enhance the figure of women. All of them wore creations specially made for them by the firm Alcántara Atelier. All three received congratulations from the mayor, Eduardo Dolón, and the Councillor for Festivities, Rosario Martínez, together with the president of the Carnival Association, Francisco Pizana, and the three kings of the previous year.
Special moments of the coronation were the farewells of the outgoing kings and also the awarding of the Golden Shield of the Carnival Association. The highest distinction went to María Teresa Moreno Girona, founder of one of the best-known comparsas from the origins of the Torrevieja carnivals, the comparsa «Fantasía». The president of the Carnival Association, Francisco Pizana, presented her with the distinction.
There was a particularly emotional farewell for the 2023 Children’s Queen, Edurne Vera Espinosa, as well as for the first King in the history of the carnival, Óscar Torregrosa Soler, who paid tribute to his fellow participants. The outgoing Queen, Sara Fernández Quesada, sang a beautiful song to bid everyone a final farewell.
